I’ve had this pattern in my stash for a long time but never got around to making it. It’s a Simplicity reproduction of a vintage design.
I wanted to make the wide-skirted version in a houndstooth fabric after seeing the idea from a Moschino dress.
The fabric I used had a much smaller houndstooth design in stripes. It’s a bit difficult to see from a distance, it just looks grey but close up there are narrow and wide stipes. I bought it so long ago I can’t remember what it is but it feels like a mix of wool and polyester.
I was going to line it with a black lining but couldn’t find the piece I had so I decided to use blue instead. I really like the contrast lining.
This is a great pattern. The mulitiple darts in the skirt go together nicely and are really flattering. The bodice doesnt’ have any darts, instead it’s shaped with gathering. The finished dress looks pretty much the same as the pattern envelope but I think it’s a bit longer. If I was making it again, I’d shorten it a bit to the knee.

Too girlish, I love it!
